Itinerary

Starting your day with an air-conditioned vehicle, taking you with your Egyptologist from your hotel to meet Amenemhat III in Fayoum.

📍 The Qarun Lake
Egypt's largest saltwater lake is a haven for diverse bird species. You will have time to take a boat ride on the lake and relish the stunning surroundings.

📍 The Valley of the Whales
Over millennia, sediment covered the bones. Wind eroded sandstone and shale above. Earth changed, India collided with Asia, and the Himalayas rose. Humans stood. Empires rose and fell. Wind persisted. Philip Gingerich finished the excavation.

📍 Pyramid of Hawara
Amenemhat III built a pyramid at Hawara, believed to be his last resting place. Neferu-Ptah's tomb was found nearby.

📍 Water Wheels
People in Fayoum have been using these traditional irrigation systems for thousands of years. These traditional irrigation systems continue to be used today, providing a fascinating glimpse into the region's agricultural heritage.

Next, Respect Egypt Tours will return you to your hotel in a private A/C vehicle to rest and relax after this wonderful day.

Night Cairo tour with Respect Egypt Tours

Feb 2026 • Friends

We had the absolute best experience with our guide, Reda. From the very beginning, she was warm, organized, and incredibly knowledgeable. She brought so much depth and context to everything we saw, but explained it in a way that was engaging and easy to understand, not overwhelming. Reda struck the perfect balance between professional and personable. She made us feel safe, taken care of, and genuinely excited to be there. You could tell she truly loves what she does, and that passion made the entire experience unforgettable. She was attentive to our questions, mindful of our pace, and always one step ahead, whether it was navigating crowds, sharing historical insight, or making sure we were comfortable. Having her as our guide elevated the entire trip. If you get the chance to tour with Reda, take it. She was simply great.

A great guide working for a great tour company

The pre-tour customer service support was the best I’ve experienced for a day trip in a dozen years of travel – highly responsive and clear – including accommodation of my late modification to the itinerary. My thanks to Nada. My guide on a private tour to the GEM and Old Cairo Museum, Laila, is young but knows her subject matter and explains things well. Often with day trip guides you can tell that they know the script but are less comfortable with broader or deeper questions. That is not true of Laila. She has put in the homework needed to know Egypt’s extensive history. She really knows her way around both museums, too, which helped maximize my time. And she has a friendly, casual style that makes her comfortable to be with for a full day. I would not hesitate to request her for another tour. Our driver, Ayman, was excellent. He called me at the hotel the day before the tour to confirm the pick up time. I’ve never had that happen on any other tour. It was a nice touch. On the drive he was good at pointing out local sections of Cairo and landmarks, and was deft at getting off the main road and cutting through a residential section to pick up our guide (it was interesting to see neighborhoods up close).

Great trip !!

Our group of four had an excellent visit to Egypt in mid January, thanks to Respect Egypt Tours. We had built a custom tour for four family members to pick us up at the airport, secure visas, get around Cairo and Luxor, take us to all the must-see sites, and generally babysit us. This tour company exceeded our expectations. Our guides were Wael in Cairo and Ahmad in Luxor, both skilled, knowledgeable and very friendly. The Respect Egypt Tour coordinator, Nada, was more attentive before and during the tour than any I have ever worked with. We highly recommend this company to all who want some hands on when they visit Egypt.

Answers of the questions you're thinking about

Have a Question?

Ancient Egypt’s one of the greatest pharaohs, Amenemhat III, ruled over his land during a period of prosperity and peace. He built pyramids, developed the Fayoum region, improved the irrigation system, and many more. He is remembered as a leader during a time of significant accomplishment in Egypt’s history.

The Pyramid of Hawara, which is sometimes referred to as the 'Labyrinth', was constructed so that it could be used as his tomb. With time, the stone covering was eroded, exposing its inner redbrick structure, yet its unknown geographic structure still piques archaeologists' curiosity. This pyramid's design allows one to travel through time and visit a place believed to have been one the ancient world's marvels.

Historical records mention Queen Neferu-Ptah as a significant consort, buried near the Pyramid of Hawara. Pharaohs often had multiple wives to strengthen alliances, but the exact number in Amenemhat III’s case remains uncertain, adding a touch of mystery to his reign.

Under his rule, Egypt was successful in business, farming, and building. Fayoum grew as an agricultural area as more projects to draw water from the Nile to farm the area were introduced. Fayoum's rich and revered history is still evident in its sheer picturesque nature.

Fayoum offers a blend of history and nature, home to both ancient treasures like the Pyramid of Hawara and natural wonders such as Qarun Lake. Its birdlife, scenic views, and fascinating history make it a must-visit destination.

The Valley of the Whales (Wadi Al-Hitan), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the place where ancient fossils that exist prove the history of life on Earth. This beautiful desert desolation is the calm before the storm of discovery and adventure and takes you back to an era from long ago.
